The Story:

“Wanting more space for our family of (now) four, we (Liz & Tom) discussed the possibility of co-ownership as a way to achieve more together than we could on our own. We dreamed of a house with a playroom, a yard with space for a trampoline, a garage and workshop, and guest space for relatives and friends visiting Vancouver – all within walking distance to groceries, activities and transit. We contemplated moving to the Fraser Valley, Vancouver Island or Squamish for better affordability, but became determined to stay in the city near where we had both lived for the past 15+ years.

Fortunate to own and live in a one-bedroom and den condo, on our own we could comfortably afford a larger unit, or we could stretch to afford a townhome or older duplex – both of which would give us more space, but neither of which had everything we wanted.

We searched for co-ownership partners among our friends (old and new) for nearly two years to no avail, property prices continued to rise, and we were about to give up. We posted an ad with CoHo BC in July 2021 as one last effort to find another family interested in home co-ownership… and received a response! Within a month we had met (virtually and in-person) and had completely hit it off with Ashley and Chris.

Long story short, we had an (under-asking) offer accepted on a >3,000sq. ft. house near Commercial Drive in East Vancouver by the end of November 2021, and are moving in the spring. It will take some work, but the house has everything we were looking for, and more - another great family to share it with!”
